Burlington, Vermont Getaway Weekend

We chose to visit Burlington for a couple of reasons. The main reason was that I bought Adam tickets to see Beach House as a birthday gift, but also because I had never been to Vermont! I’m working on seeing a piece of every US State, and since Vermont is a relatively short drive from us, only 6 hours, we decided to see Beach House in Vermont to also be able to see a bit of Burlington! Adam had been a couple of times, but always for snowboarding in the winter. So it was a new experience for the both of us to check out Burlington together!

Check out the youtube video that I made of our trip here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=miEr8DZpd38

Beach House at Flynn theater

Like I just mentioned, our main reason for the visit was to see Beach House in concert at the Flynn Theater. The theater itself was really nice, and we had front row seats!

When booking tickets online it wasn’t allowing me to select my seats any closer than about 10 rows back from the front. I gave the theater a call and they let me know that they weren’t selling the first row tickets online because they set up another two rows in the orchestra pit and they needed to inform the people buying the tickets that they wouldn’t actually be the first row. So I was able to get us in row A, which was awesome for the show.

The only weird thing about the theater is that it is a theater that hosts concerts rather than being a concert hall. So we weren’t allowed to bring our drinks into the theater itself during the concert.

Our Airbnb

We booked an airbnb very close to downtown, it was a 5 minute walk to Flynn Theater from the airbnb, and maybe a 10 minute walk to the waterfront. It was relatively cheap since it was a room in a shared apartment though we didn’t see anyone else while we were there.

I think that getting a place so close to downtown was a great decision. The actual town is relatively small and we walked a giant loop, so not having to worry about parking or driving after drinking at the concert was such a stress reliever.

Walking along the Waterfront

Burlington is right on Lake Champlain which is soooo beautiful. The lake is right between the mountains making for a stunning view. We were able to walk from our airbnb down to the water and watch the sunset and returned the next day to stroll along the water again. There’s so many beautiful flowers to admire, and there’s swinging seats and benches to chill at. Lots of people were walking their dogs, reading books, and strolling. It was a very peaceful place.

Walk Along Church Street Marketplace

The main walking street in Burlington is filled with coffee shops (our favs), clothing stores, restaurants, book stores, and souvenir shops. It’s a great place to grab a cup of coffee, people watch, and stroll on a perfectly sunny day like we had.

There was also a summer festival going on with live music, games for kids, and food trucks. Happening upon events like this is always a treat because they’re free to the public and usually bring great food and entertainment.

August First - Coffee and Breakfast

When researching great places for coffee and breakfast, August First kept popping up. We decided to go, and we were not disappointed. The prices were kinda high for coffee and breakfast sandwiches, but they were delicious! August First has their bakery attached so all of the bread was fresh that morning, making the sandwiches particularly amazing!

I would love to visit Burlington again in the fall or winter to see how beautiful it is in the different seasons. It’s a beautiful town with lots of things to do, and there’s lots of winter sports outside of Burlington that I’d like to try some day.
